Your whole team can't be untouchable... that seems somewhat counter productive. You have to give to get, and if that means someone like yak, if it makes your team better you do it.

Okay, so trade me Doughty and Kopitar, and you can have Yakupov. Deal?

The WHOLE point of my comment was missed. If you could trade yak for someone better you should do it..... kind of common sense.

Without a rock solid goalie and a strong defensive system its going to be tough to win consistently. Yes Edmonton is loaded up front, but Schultz and Klefbom are prospects so there is no guarantee their game is going to translate to the NHL.

of course u have a point. a list of untouchables needs to be much smaller. we're not getting a stud player for a group of guys no one wants.

but for now yaks needs to be untouchable because its tougher with him
because we dont know whos better. could turn out to be hardly anyone...

Fair point, but if you trade him for someone good, then yaks turns out to be a bust? It goes both ways.

dubnyk could still be that guy. he hasnt got his chance to be a true number 1 yet. which he will this next season.

he certainly HASNT proven he cant do it, far from it actually. we'll see soon enough..

petrys developing and showed some real promise last year. smid was a warrior for us. whitney SAYS hes healthy etc etc.
point is, it might not completely depend on klefbom turning into a superstar etc.

theres no guarantee of course. but these conjectures without any solid info to back these claims up is silly. just seems like a line of thinking gets brought up and everyone just goes with it as conventional wisdom.

absolutely. but at this point. its not worth the risk.

imo, the oilers need to show some real improvement this year. another lottery pick would be disaster.
but
i feel like tambs can add some pieces or stop gaps (until klefbom-schultz etc) and make us better without completely selling the farm.
a major move like that can wait till we are ready to take that step to contender imo.

i also might be abit protective of yaks too to be fair... i think hes gonna be the real deal.
even with us needing a superstar dman so desperately goin into this draft, i was still completely on board with taking another winger. im more confident of yaks than i ever was with hall or even nuge.

Valid points, I agree that Dubnyk hasnt had the chance to showcase his worth as a starter. He may very well turn out to be a very good #1.

As for defense, I think Smid is a solid shut down guy, but Im not sold on Whitneys health. Nick Schultz is good, not great.

I dont think Edm is in a situation where they're on a downward spiral, I just dont think they have enough pieces on the back end to really turn the corner. I know its early and they are a young team, but it seems a lot of there future success is built off player projections. Just my 2 cents.
